The device is part of the creative process
A desktop browser is comfortable for keeping a character brief open beside a writing document. A phone app is convenient for returning to a character during a short break. Those are practical workflow differences, not evidence that one AI is more capable.
FunFun’s public creator is accessible as a browser page with a staged setup. WaifuChat’s official landing page points to the anime companion brand operated by Disco Labs LLC. Its Apple listing identifies the same developer and an iPhone/iPad app.
That publisher-and-domain chain is more useful than downloading an installer simply because its title says “WaifuChat.”
Match the surface to the job
Start by deciding what the next session produces.
A written character plan. A browser creator can sit alongside your own document. FunFun begins with name and appearance; its published staged form also defines personality, occupation, up to three hobbies and clothing choices. Those are broad setup controls. Keep the particular scene’s unresolved decision in a separate note rather than assume that choosing an occupation reconstructs a past conversation.
An anime collection. WaifuChat’s developer describes creating characters and generating anime images and videos in the app. This establishes the intended creative direction. It does not establish that every capability is free, unlimited on every plan or available on every device.
A continuing conversation. WaifuChat’s developer release history names Scenes in version 2.0.9, dated 7 July 2025, and Memories in version 2.0.91, dated 13 July 2025. The former describes custom scenarios; the latter advertises long-term continuity across scenes. Those are specific published features to investigate, rather than treating the app as pictures alone. Release notes establish what the developer announced; they do not independently verify perfect recall or the result of an earlier correction.
| Decision | More relevant evidence |
|---|---|
| Need a desktop writing surface | A usable browser creator and your own notes |
| Want an anime-focused phone app | The publisher-verified Apple listing |
| Need the same work on two devices | Explicit account/sync documentation, not a “mobile-friendly” claim |
| Expect frequent media generation | The current entitlement and the unit it covers |
Read “included” at the correct level
WaifuChat’s listing describes Pro benefits including messages, images and characters. Treat that as a developer-published entitlement description. It is not a measurement of generation quality, and it does not establish a universal price outside the displayed store and region.
FunFun’s mobile terms are a separate document from its web terms. A time-limited complimentary-membership statement should not be turned into an evergreen free-plan promise. The same brand can have different access and billing surfaces.
Do not assume that buying through one store pays for another interface unless the provider documents that relationship.
A realistic first project
Write one original adult character and one short non-explicit scene. On a desktop, the goal could be a coherent brief and opening. In an anime app, it could be a recognizable concept and a usable scene description. Judge the result against that modest goal before expanding a collection.
Policy access also matters. WaifuChat’s official-linked Notion policies returned 404 in direct reads during this research, although indexed text was available. That limits what we can confidently say about current retention and billing rules. It is a reason to avoid strong privacy or refund promises, not a reason to invent them.
